Today the plumbing and electrical started. Last Thursday we met with the electrician to go over where we wanted switches and outlets, what type of lights and their placement, where to run speaker wire and where to put the auxiliary 220V/60A switch panel. We also met the plumber and discussed different fixtures and placement of shower heads. In the end we decided to install 2 separate shower heads. One tall one for me and one shorter one for her that is also on a hose, for leg shaving. Finally, we met with the cabinet contractor to pick out our cabinets and look at counter top samples.
Here you can see in red where the window should be and in the next pic you can see where the window was added. Here are some shots of the roof framing progress.
From the amount of pictures taken, you can tell we spend a lot of time at the house. Because of that we have been able to meet all of our neighbors. Not many people get to know their neighbors before they move in.
Today while visiting the site we noticed a few things that weren't right. They weren't a big deal because we caught them early enough to easily be corrected. One was a door that we had added to the MBR and later deleted. The framer got the plan with the door still in it, so they built the door frame. The other problem was a window that was supposed to be there, wasn't. We talked to Jeff and he talked to the framers to get it fixed.
We stopped by the site today to check and see if the framing had begun. We got there just after the materials were dropped off and before the framers arrived. While at the site we noticed the builder, Jeff, was in the neighborhood and we had a few questions about adding a side entrance door to the garage and adding recessed lights in the Master Bedroom. While talking to Jeff the framers arrived. We stayed around for a little bit and watched them set up for framing. One issue that was never really resolved in the planning stages was where to locate the windows in the Master BR. We originally wanted to just have 3 high mounted rectangular windows that were above our bed's headboard, but code prevents that. By code we have to have a secondary egress to the outside of the house and that meant either add a door or we go back to the original design of two windows. We decided to go with 2 windows and later in the afternoon Jeff called us to come out and decide where we wanted to place them. When we got there a few walls were already framed and we talked to Jeff and the framer about where to place the windows. The problem for us is that our bed's headboard is integrated with nightstands and therefore partially covers the windows. There was really no way around that for us, so we just spaced the windows far apart enough to fit a standard King sized bed between it. After we decided where to put the windows the framers began building that wall.
