Internet

We now have internet. COX cable is going to wire up the neighborhood in Feb. So we are going to wait it out and get TV, internet and phone through COX. Until then we are using Verizon broadband (its internet over a cellular modem). It $20 more a month for access but on the plus side, I can get internet any where I can get cell service. I might not want to switch when the time comes. For phones we are just using our cellphones and I really cant think of a good reason to get a landline. If you know of one let me know. For TV we just watch DVDs, besides, there really isn't much good on TV and we have a lot of house work to do.

The house is slowly getting unpacked. We are learning how to use our new appliances as well. The new range looks and sounds like a tactical station from Star Trek and the microwave is more like a food replicator. The microwave is pretty awesome. It can sense the food and then cook it appropriately. The refrigerator is a freezer on the bottom unit with a water and ice dispenser and is also computerized. The dishwasher is ultra quiet, although not as quiet as a Bosch, and has many adjustable features.

One of the upgrades I got was gutters. I'm really not sure if it was good decision or not. The installer only installed gutters and no gutter guards. So, now I have a ton of leaves to clean out and I bought some gutter guards which I began installing today.

I'm sure there are many other things going on that I left out, but I think this is enough for now

MOVED IN!!

We moved in a couple of days ago and we are now in the process of unpacking. We don't have internet or TV yet and it looks like we will wait until Feb to get them hooked up. The reason is because we are waiting for the cable company to hook up our neighborhood and we don't want satellite. So, until then, we will go to places with internet hotspots and watch DVDs. Besides we really need to spend our time unpacking instead of watching tv.

CLOSING!

We are officially home owners!! I am actually surprised at how easy the process was. We just signed a bunch of stuff and had some money wired over and the house was ours.
Tomorrow is moving day! Yay!

Getting closer!!

There have been many finishing touches going on. Today the back splash was added in the kitchen, mirrors were added to the bathrooms. We are still set to close this Friday and move in on Saturday. Not everything is all roses though. The drain line for the dishwasher leaked and damaged the wood floor. The builder tried to dry it out but the wood was warped beyond repair and he agreed to replace it.

Guess who the tall sink belongs to?

Closing date!

Nothing big has happened in the past few days. The security system was installed, paint was touched up and garage door opener was hooked up.

The big news is that we close on the 21st!

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Wow! Its been a few days since I last posted. I have been really busy with work and packing the house and there really hasn't been any big changes to the house. Most of the work is just refinements of what has already been done. The biggest event was the delivery and installation of the range, dishwasher and microwave.

95% complete kitchen....Outdoor switches on top, indoor on bottom

The range. A tile backsplash is going on the wall

The Cabinet Pantry

Slide out drawers............ the propane fireplace

Tray for rope light

The utilty sink, with legs so it wont fall off the wall

A few of the soffet electrical outlets for holiday lights.

Floors and Lights

This week the work has slowed a little bit. Earlier this week the landscaping was finished, the garage door was installed with an opener, and the utility sink was installed. Today the hardwood floor installation started and the dining room chandelier was installed.
The chandelier has an interesting story behind it. A few years ago Vanessa attended an Officers Wives Club function. There were many door prizes and one of them was the chandelier. Of all the prizes that was the one prize we had no use for because we lived in base housing and couldn't install it. So, of course, she wins the chandelier. She tried to trade it with one of the other prize winners, no one wanted it. She tried to trade it back in for cash, but it was bought off Ebay. So we were stuck with it. I told her that one day we would have a house and that we could install it then. We brought it home and I hung it in the corner of our guest bedroom, where it lived for 2 years. Now it has a new home. There are a lot more crystals that go on it and I will put them one once we move in.

The big event of the day was the addition of sod to the yard. Now it really looks like a house!
On the inside light and ceiling fans were added.

Shower Grout, Counters, Fireplace

Inside the house, we had a few shower tiles fixed and then the shower was grouted. The counters were going in when we got there and the fireplace mantel was put into place. Outside the house, the landscaping work has begun.
